On April 14, Amazon and Globalstar announced the finalization of a merger agreement, under which Amazon will acquire Globalstar to enhance its low-Earth orbit satellite network, Leo, by adding direct-to-device services and expanding cellular network coverage to areas without terrestrial networks. Meanwhile, Amazon has reached an agreement with Apple, whereby Leo will provide satellite services for the iPhone and Apple Watch, including the transmission of emergency distress signals.
