On April 7th, Petroleum Engineering Design Company inked a deal with Shanghai Hailan Cloud Technology Co., Ltd., the globe's inaugural commercial subsea data center service provider. This move officially set the wheels in motion for Sinopec's first-ever subsea data center project design. The project showcases an innovative approach by adopting a collaborative model that combines 'offshore wind power' and 'subsea computing power.' It hinges on a direct power supply sourced from offshore wind farms, a strategy aimed at minimizing the losses typically associated with long-distance electricity transmission. Additionally, the project capitalizes on the ocean's natural cold source, employing heat exchange technology on the outer walls of the data modules to achieve efficient cooling. Remarkably, the entire operation requires no freshwater, marking a significant stride towards both efficient energy utilization and ecological environmental preservation, thus creating a win-win scenario.
