Kris Sennesael, the Chief Financial Officer of Western Digital, remarked that the HDD (Hard Disk Drive) sector is no longer subject to the whims of seasonality or business cycles. The company is now channeling its efforts into supplying ultra-high-capacity HDDs to AI hyperscale cloud service providers. These providers exhibit consistent purchasing patterns, unaffected by seasonal variations. With the ever-increasing volume of data being utilized, generated, and stored, the industry is witnessing a flywheel effect—a self-reinforcing cycle of growth. Given that the customer base is predominantly composed of a select few hyperscale enterprises, Western Digital has recalibrated its business strategy. It now emphasizes forging deeper collaborations through partnerships and long-term purchase commitments. Presently, Western Digital's production capacity for 2026 is entirely reserved, with certain contracts stretching into 2027 and 2028. The company is actively engaged in contract extension negotiations with other clients and has even fielded inquiries concerning supply prospects in 2030.
