On January 21, The Wall Street Journal reported that Elon Musk has steadfastly resisted taking SpaceX public for years. However, he has recently accelerated the initial public offering (IPO) process, primarily driven by his ambition to spearhead the establishment of a data center in space. Presently, major tech firms are vying to construct data centers to bolster AI computing capabilities, spurring Musk and others to float the concept of building data centers in the cosmos. Despite facing technical hurdles, this notion continues to attract considerable attention.

It's reported that Musk envisions SpaceX as the pioneer in constructing a space-based data center, with the funds raised from the IPO deemed essential for this ambitious endeavor. Furthermore, Musk is of the opinion that SpaceX's IPO will provide a significant boost to its AI subsidiary, xAI, enabling it to keep pace with rivals. SpaceX is anticipated to soon finalize the selection of investment banks to spearhead the stock issuance. Musk has also voiced his aspiration to conclude the IPO process before July of this year.
