The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in the United States is set to hold a vote on January 29, aiming to approve a new category of 6GHz wireless Wi-Fi devices, referred to as 'Geofenced Variable Power' (GVP) devices. This approval would permit these devices to function at power levels exceeding the current norms. To prevent interference, GVP devices are required to operate within designated geographical areas or frequency bands, in tandem with geofencing systems. These devices are primarily intended for use in applications such as AR/VR (Augmented Reality/Virtual Reality), short-range hotspots, automation systems, and indoor navigation. Furthermore, the FCC intends to gather public opinions on the possibility of increasing the power levels of certain indoor low-power devices.
