According to multiple sources familiar with the matter and internal memos, more than two years ago, NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang proposed a vision to build cloud services that could compete with Amazon Web Services (AWS). Now, the company has abandoned direct competition and restructured its cloud computing team last week. Alexis Black Bjorlin, the head of cloud business who previously reported directly to Huang, is undergoing an internal transfer. The DGX Cloud team, consisting of hundreds of employees, has been merged into the engineering and operations organization, led by Dwight Diercks, Senior Vice President of Software Engineering. After the restructuring, the team will primarily serve the chip demands required by NVIDIA's internal engineers for developing open-source AI models, rather than focusing on selling cloud services to external enterprise customers. Meanwhile, the DGX Cloud Lepton service will also be integrated into the engineering team.
