As the artificial intelligence sector experiences explosive growth, relocating data centers to space has emerged as a hotly contested new arena for American tech behemoths. According to a report from U.S. People magazine dated the 17th, data from the Pew Research Center reveals that there are currently around 4,000 data centers either in operation or under construction across the United States. Yet, their voracious energy consumption is causing a spike in residential electricity bills. Statistics show that in 2023, data centers gobbled up 4.4% of the nation's total electricity, with projections indicating that this figure could soar to 12% by 2028. Industry experts highlight that situating data centers in space has the potential to slash operational expenses.
