Following the initiation of an investigation into Microsoft by EU competition authorities under newly established tech industry regulations, Alphabet's Google has withdrawn its EU antitrust complaint targeting Microsoft's cloud division, Azure. Google clarified that this withdrawal was prompted by the European Commission's pre-existing investigation into whether Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services are required to adhere to the Digital Markets Act, a legislative framework governing Europe's digital economy. The Senior Director of European Government Affairs at Google Cloud emphasized that the original complaint was filed to articulate concerns on behalf of customers and partners regarding anti-competitive cloud licensing practices. He further stated that Google continues to uphold its initial arguments.
