On November 28, Reuters cited seven sources with inside knowledge of the situation, stating that Huawei and ZTE have successfully clinched a number of 5G equipment supply contracts in Vietnam this year. Earlier, after the U.S. slapped tariffs on Vietnamese goods, leading to a cooling of U.S.-Vietnam relations, Vietnam shifted towards a more proactive stance in embracing technologies from Chinese tech firms. While Ericsson and Nokia have managed to secure contracts for the core 5G infrastructure in Vietnam, Chinese companies have begun to make inroads, winning some smaller-scale projects through tenders conducted by Vietnam's state-owned operators.
