Recently, at the 2025 China 5G+Industrial Internet Conference, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology made an official announcement: a two-year commercial trial for satellite Internet of Things (IoT) services has been launched. This trial is strategically designed to bolster the offerings in the satellite communications market, invigorate the dynamism of market players, elevate industry service capabilities, establish a robust safety supervision framework, and cultivate replicable and scalable experiences and models. These efforts are aimed at fostering the safe and sustainable growth of emerging sectors, including commercial aerospace and the low-altitude economy.
Satellite IoT leverages cutting-edge satellite communication technology to seamlessly connect a multitude of devices across terrestrial, maritime, and aerial domains. It provides comprehensive data collection and transmission services, with its application scope spanning a wide array of fields such as marine fisheries, transportation and logistics, energy and water resource management, emergency communications, the low-altitude economy, industrial internet, and beyond.
