On October 24, 2025, Microsoft Azure's DDoS protection mechanism sprang into action, detecting and effectively thwarting a record-breaking, multi-pronged Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) assault. This attack soared to an astonishing peak of 15.72 terabits per second (Tbps) and 3.64 billion packets per second (pps), marking it as the most massive DDoS attack ever recorded in the cloud realm, with its sights set on a solitary endpoint located in Australia. As per Microsoft's official account, the offensive was orchestrated by the Aisuru botnet, a cyber menace linked to Turbo Mirai. Leveraging a vast network of compromised Internet of Things (IoT) gadgets, including home routers and surveillance cameras, the botnet unleashed the attack by flooding the target with a colossal volume of UDP traffic emanating from more than 500,000 distinct IP addresses.
