Based on insights from netizens and tech news sources, Microsoft has just rolled out the version 142 update to users of the stable version of its Edge browser. This update officially introduces the cross-device storage and synchronization capability for passkeys, marking a significant stride towards passwordless login solutions.
Following the update, passkeys are automatically saved to Microsoft accounts and seamlessly synchronized across various devices. These passkeys are safeguarded by an independent PIN code from Microsoft Password Manager. Users can then log in by authenticating their identities through Windows Hello.
At present, this functionality is exclusively accessible to a select group of users on the Windows platform, with plans to extend its availability to other platforms in the near future. Moreover, Microsoft is also set to release a dedicated plugin designed to boost the compatibility and user-friendliness of passkey usage, facilitating cross-platform and cross-application identity verification.
