With Windows 10 officially ceasing support in October 2025, a number of PC users, unable to upgrade to Windows 11 due to hardware constraints (such as the absence of TPM 2.0 modules), are now shifting their focus to Ubuntu—the most extensively used Linux distribution worldwide. Canonical has officially declared that the upcoming long-term support version, Ubuntu 26.04 LTS (nicknamed "Resolute Raccoon"), is set to be officially launched on April 23, 2026. This edition will come with a support lifecycle extending up to a decade, encompassing 5 years of complimentary standard security updates, followed by an additional 5 years of extended security maintenance services. From a technical standpoint, the system will incorporate the GNOME 50 desktop environment, the newest Linux kernel, and updated graphics card drivers. The use of Rust programming language in core components will see a substantial rise, and features like TPM-based encryption and Snap application management technology will be introduced. Additionally, the amd64v3 software package, tailored for contemporary CPUs, will be available as a separate installation choice. However, the default ISO image will retain the amd64v1 architecture to guarantee compatibility across a wide range of hardware.
