On October 30, 2025, US software company SAS Institute notified its employees in China via internal emails and video conferences that the company would terminate its direct business operations in China and lay off all approximately 400 employees. A spokesperson for SAS confirmed that the decision aimed to optimize the company's global business layout and ensure long-term sustainable development, adding that SAS would continue to operate in China through third-party partners. The simplified Chinese version of the SAS China official website has been taken offline, and job postings no longer include positions in China. Since entering the Chinese market in 1999, SAS had been named China's 'Best Employer' for 17 consecutive years. This withdrawal marks another Western technology company adjusting its strategy in China.
