The latest research has unveiled a novel form of surveillance threat. Even when the target is not utilizing Wi-Fi or has their phone switched off, attackers can still leverage nearby wireless networks to "identify individuals through walls". A research team from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology in Germany highlighted that attackers can precisely deduce the identities of people present by passively observing alterations in the propagation of existing Wi-Fi signals in the surroundings, eliminating the necessity for specialized hardware. The pertinent research findings have been published in the 'ACM Data Science' journal.
