The State Administration for Market Regulation (also known as the Standardization Administration) has given its approval and issued a recommended national standard titled 'Data Security Technology - Security Certification Requirements for Cross-Border Processing Activities of Personal Information'. This standard is slated to officially come into force on March 1, 2026. Compiled by the China Cybersecurity Review and Certification Center in conjunction with the Big Data Center for Market Regulation, this standard represents China's inaugural national standard in the realm of cross-border safety management of personal information. It delineates the pertinent principles, requirements, and measures for rights protection concerning the cross-border processing of personal information, thereby establishing a solid foundation for the regulation of such activities. The standard is instrumental in bolstering transparency and credibility, thereby facilitating the lawful and compliant cross-border transmission of personal information. Simultaneously, it will also serve as a catalyst for the implementation of the certification system aimed at protecting personal information, providing a compliant avenue for the cross-border flow of such data.
