On September 8th (local time), the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) declared the commencement of a procedure to revoke the accreditation of seven testing laboratories, which are owned or controlled by the Chinese government. This move was prompted by concerns regarding US national security. Earlier, in May of this year, the FCC voted in favor of adopting a definitive rule that bars Chinese laboratories deemed to pose a threat to US national security from testing electronic devices—such as smartphones, cameras, and computers—intended for the US market.

The FCC highlighted that roughly 75% of electronic products undergo testing in laboratories situated in China. Since May, the accreditation held by four additional Chinese laboratories in the US has lapsed and will not be subject to renewal.
