At a recent event, Thomas Kurian, the CEO of Google Cloud, disclosed that the aggregate value of the current customer contract commitments for Google Cloud has soared to a staggering $106 billion. Moreover, it is anticipated that at least 55% of this amount, which translates to $58 billion, will materialize into actual revenue within the next two years. Notably, the growth rate of contract commitments outpaces that of revenue. Presently, tech giants like Alphabet are intensifying their efforts in constructing data centers to cater to the burgeoning demand for AI computing.
During a conference, Kurian expounded on Google Cloud's strategic approach, highlighting that its competitive advantage in AI is rooted in its proprietary chip technology and a robust software infrastructure. Despite holding the third position in terms of cloud computing market share, Google Cloud is widely regarded as a potent growth catalyst for Alphabet and enjoys significant recognition among AI startups. Alphabet's financial report for the period reveals that Google Cloud's revenue witnessed a remarkable 32% year-over-year increase in the second quarter, reaching $13.6 billion. This performance has propelled its annualized revenue run rate to exceed the $50 billion mark.
