China Unicom has achieved a significant milestone with the successful launch of its four low-Earth-orbit satellites, Unicom Galaxy 01 through 04, into their predetermined orbits off the coast of Rizhao, Shandong Province. Following this achievement, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has officially licensed China Unicom to operate satellite mobile communication services. This endorsement enables China Unicom to legally offer direct mobile phone-to-satellite connectivity services. Currently, China Unicom's outlets have rolled out the 'Unicom Satellite' package, priced at a mere 10 yuan per month. This package includes 2 minutes of complimentary domestic voice calls (both incoming and outgoing). The service is available to subscribers in eight regions, including Tianjin, provided they possess terminal devices compatible with Unicom's satellite capabilities. Designed primarily for emergency communication scenarios in areas with unreliable or non-existent ground network coverage, this service is restricted to domestic use and is exclusively available to Unicom's mobile network customers. Subscribers have the flexibility to cancel their service plan at any time; however, fees already paid will not be eligible for a refund. Moreover, once the international roaming service is canceled, access to this satellite service package will also be terminated.
