Microsoft has introduced the VM Conversion Tool, a complimentary extension within Windows Admin Center, tailored to streamline the migration of VMware virtual machines to a Hyper-V-based Windows Server environment for enterprises. This tool empowers users to migrate up to 10 virtual machines simultaneously, ensuring compatibility with both BIOS and UEFI systems while preserving boot configurations. Prior to migration, the tool connects to the existing virtualization environment to perform pre-checks, leveraging change block tracking technology to create virtual machine replicas. This approach ensures a seamless migration process with minimal downtime. Furthermore, the VM Conversion Tool supports multi-disk configurations and is capable of migrating virtual machines running either Windows or Linux, catering to enterprises aiming to maintain operational continuity while planning a comprehensive transition to the Microsoft cloud ecosystem. Users can download the public beta version from Microsoft's official technical community and validate the migration process in a non-production setting.
