Google has inked a power purchase agreement with the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) to acquire electricity generated by Kairos Energy's fluoride salt-cooled reactors. This electricity will fuel the 50-megawatt Hermes II demonstration plant, slated to commence operations in 2030, ensuring a reliable supply to Google's data centers in Tennessee and Alabama. Kairos Energy aims to achieve a significant milestone of 500 megawatts of new nuclear power capacity by 2035, assisting Google in mitigating carbon emissions associated with AI computing demands and propelling Google towards its ambitious goal of achieving full zero-carbon operations by 2040.
