To secure licenses for exporting AI chips to China, US-based chipmakers Nvidia and AMD have struck an agreement to remit 15% of their sales revenue from H20 and MI308 chips in China to the US government. The US Department of Commerce has subsequently commenced issuing the necessary export licenses. This unprecedented arrangement aligns with the Trump administration's strategy aimed at fostering the repatriation of enterprises to the United States. Nvidia expressed its hope that export control regulations would assist the US in preserving its global AI competitiveness while ensuring national security.
