On August 11, the Financial Times revealed that American chip giants Nvidia and AMD have concurred to remit 15% of their China-based chip sales revenue to the US government in exchange for export licenses granted by the Trump administration. Specifically, Nvidia will contribute 15% of its earnings from H20 chip sales in China, while AMD will similarly hand over an equivalent proportion from its MI308 AI chip sales. US officials underscored that this practice of requiring a share of corporate revenue in lieu of export approvals is unprecedented.
