Samsung aims to reinvigorate its Z-NAND storage technology, with the ambitious goal of achieving a 15-fold performance enhancement and an 80% reduction in power consumption. This cutting-edge technology is tailored specifically for AI applications, particularly AI GPUs, with the intent of drastically minimizing latency. To realize this vision, Samsung has pioneered the GIDS technology, enabling GPUs to directly interface with Z-NAND storage devices, operating on a principle akin to Microsoft's DirectStorage API. Z-NAND introduces a novel solid-state storage layer that delivers performance nearing that of DRAM, while maintaining a system latency markedly lower than traditional SSDs. Should the new generation of Z-NAND meet its projected benchmarks, it stands poised to deliver performance 15 times greater than current NVMe SSDs.
