Recently, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment of China granted construction permits for Units 1 and 2 of the Jinqimen Nuclear Power Plant situated in Zhejiang province. On August 10, China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) proudly announced the official commencement of this project, which signifies the addition of another cutting-edge member to China's suite of self-developed Hualong One nuclear power technology. Based in Ningbo, Zhejiang, the project has already commenced concrete pouring for the nuclear island of Unit 1, marking the full-fledged beginning of nuclear island construction. The ambitious plan envisions the construction of six nuclear power units, each with a generating capacity of one million kilowatts. Units 1 and 2 will be equipped with the advanced Hualong One technology, featuring a rated capacity of 1.2 million kilowatts per unit and a robust design life of 60 years. Upon completion, the annual power generation capacity is projected to reach an impressive 55 billion kilowatt-hours, thereby significantly mitigating carbon dioxide emissions.
