A research team, led by Li Hua from the Shanghai Institute of Microsystem and Information Technology at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, in partnership with Professor Zeng Heping's team from East China Normal University, has achieved groundbreaking advancements in terahertz (THz) tri-comb light sources. The team has put forth a novel approach to realize a compact THz tri-comb light source and has successfully built a tri-comb system comprising three terahertz quantum cascade lasers (QCLs). This system notably amplifies information acquisition capabilities and enhances measurement precision. By integrating an on-chip dual-comb device with a standalone single-comb device in a tri-comb architecture, the team has not only improved the system's thermal stability but also achieved sample detection functionality.
