Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company's (TSMC) Kumamoto plant, known as JASM, has once again deferred its production commencement date. Initially intended to serve customers in the complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CIS) and automotive industries, including Sony and Toyota, with a focus on advanced specialty processes, the plant now faces an uncertain future due to a sluggish automotive market and tariff uncertainties. Despite entering the site preparation phase last year, the primary reason for the production delay is attributed to the challenging winds of customer demand. In contrast to the thriving advancements in artificial intelligence, the outlook for this plant sector appears relatively dim.
