The Supreme People's Court has denied GE Video Compression Company's appeal in the second instance, thereby affirming the decision to invalidate the critical patent ZL201610412832.3 for the HEVC/H.265 video codec standard. This patent belongs to GE, a pioneering member of the HEVC Advance patent pool. Xiaomi faced infringement allegations in Germany due to the absence of a licensing agreement and subsequently filed a patent invalidation request in 2020. In 2022, the patent was ruled invalid, with the court concluding that it lacked inventive step.
