The Shanghai Municipal Commission of Economy and Informatization has unveiled the "Shanghai Action Plan for High-Quality Development of the Next-Generation Display Industry (2026-2030)". This strategic blueprint emphasizes leveraging Shanghai's strengths in display chips, particularly in the burgeoning sectors of the metaverse, smart terminals, and automotive applications. It aims to elevate the technological sophistication of display driver chips. Concurrently, the plan fosters the development of MicroLED chip technology across its entire value chain, encompassing large-scale epitaxy, high-pixel density architectures, quantum dot full-color technology, and beyond. Furthermore, the plan advocates expanding the market footprint of flexible display driver chips tailored for small and medium-sized devices, accelerating the adoption of 4K and 8K ultra-high-definition display drivers, and bolstering the manufacturing capabilities for high-end display driver wafers while scaling up production.

To propel industrial growth, the action plan encourages synergies between chip manufacturers, panel factories, and end-user enterprises to collaboratively innovate in areas such as image quality enhancement and real-time zoning control. Additionally, it underscores the importance of research and development (R&D) and industrialization of smart glasses' main control chips, expediting their market penetration and adoption.
