Bloomberg reports that John Mullernal, the chairman of the U.S. House Special Committee on China, expressed his opposition to the Trump administration's decision to permit NVIDIA to resume exports of H20 AI chips to China. Mullernal warned that this move could significantly enhance China's competitiveness in the AI sector and potentially bolster its military capabilities. In response, NVIDIA emphasized that the decision aligns with the interests of the United States.
Mullernal penned a letter to the U.S. Secretary of Commerce, outlining his concerns and requesting clarification on the rationale behind the policy shift and the issuance of the necessary licenses. Earlier, NVIDIA's CEO, Jen-Hsun Huang, had reassured that the Chinese military would not utilize American technology, as China already possesses ample computing power. Additionally, NVIDIA's upcoming RTX PRO chips are specifically designed for the Chinese market.
