On July 16, Bloomberg reported that the Trump administration had lifted previous export control measures, enabling NVIDIA and AMD to resume selling certain AI chips to China. David Sacks, the Director of AI Initiatives at the White House, justified this decision, arguing that it would bolster US competitiveness in international markets and rein in Huawei's global market share expansion. This move is perceived as a triumph for NVIDIA CEO Jen-Hsun Huang, who has recently been advocating for less stringent sales restrictions on China. During a prior visit to China, Huang announced that NVIDIA would resume sales of H100 chips in the country and introduce a new GPU.
