On July 15, NVIDIA announced its intention to resume sales of the H20 artificial intelligence chip's low-power variant in China, specifically tailored for the Chinese market, following a licensing assurance from the U.S. government. NVIDIA's CEO, Jensen Huang, who met with U.S. President Trump last week, will also participate in the 3rd China International Supply Chain Promotion Expo in Beijing this week. Huang informed NVIDIA's clients that the company is actively pursuing new licenses to market the H20 in China and anticipates swift approval to resume shipments. Initially designed to adhere to prior U.S. restrictions on AI hardware sales, the H20 chip faced additional control measures imposed by the Trump administration in April, extending to chips at the H20 level. Huang had earlier cautioned that if the H20 inventory remained unsold, NVIDIA could incur losses amounting to billions of dollars.
