Intel has recently announced a significant workforce reduction, impacting approximately 2,400 employees in Oregon, a figure that vastly surpasses the initial plan of 529 layoffs. This decision affects pivotal roles across the company, including chip design, process engineering, equipment maintenance, data science, and software development, amounting to over 10% of the local workforce. The layoffs span multiple campuses, encompassing more than 300 module development engineers, over 300 equipment maintenance technicians, and numerous data scientists.
