On Friday (Eastern Time), the three major U.S. stock indices closed marginally lower, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average leading the decline at 0.63%. Tech stocks exhibited mixed results; Google and Amazon shares rose, whereas Apple and Facebook declined. Banking stocks generally retreated, while energy stocks enjoyed a broad-based rally. Gold stocks, conversely, also posted gains across the board, with Coreldren Mining surging over 5%. Chinese concept stocks fared differently, as 21Vianet Group soared more than 14%, while Lianzhangmenhu plummeted over 16%. Similarly, the three major European stock indices closed in the red. International oil prices saw a notable increase, with the benchmark U.S. crude oil contract rising 3.27%. Precious metals futures generally advanced, with COMEX silver gaining more than 5% for the week. Additionally, the U.S. dollar index climbed, causing most non-U.S. currencies to depreciate.
