Intel once harbored hopes of regaining its former glory with the 18A process, viewing it as the pivotal step in catching up with TSMC. However, recent developments suggest that Intel is internally contemplating abandoning the 18A process and concentrating all its resources on the more advanced 14A process. Previously, Intel's decision to forgo the 20A process seemed to deviate from the 5Y4N (five years, four nodes) strategy outlined by former CEO Pat Gelsinger, yet the industry remained optimistic. Should Intel proceed with abandoning the 18A process, it would signify a significant shift in its foundry business strategy, aimed at bolstering competitiveness through the adoption of the more cutting-edge 14A process technology.
