Samsung Electronics' operating profit in the second quarter fell sharply by approximately 56% year-on-year, with a slight decline in revenue. This was mainly due to the US export restrictions on AI chips to China and the hindrance in selling memory chips to NVIDIA. The company stated that the profit decline was also related to increased inventory-related costs and delays in HBM product certification, leading to a lag behind SK Hynix and Micron in the AI chip market competition. To address the difficulties, Samsung plans to mass-produce HBM4 in the second half of the year in hopes of increasing its market share.
