Samsung's Semiconductor division has witnessed a notable drop in performance bonuses for the first six months of 2024. Specifically, the Memory division's bonus has plummeted to 25% of base salary, while the System LSI and Semiconductor Research Center each received a mere 12.5%. The Foundry division, meanwhile, received no bonuses at all, marking a 0% payout. This drastic shift is primarily attributed to the underperformance of the HBM business and the ongoing deterioration of the NAND flash memory market.
In stark contrast, the Mobile Experience and Medical Device divisions have fared better, with performance bonuses reaching an impressive 75%. Notably, Samsung DS executives have demonstrated their commitment to improving performance by deciding to forgo their bonuses. This move underscores the significant challenges that Samsung's Semiconductor business is currently grappling with.
