On July 5, news broke that the US Air Force had suspended SpaceX's proposed plan to test hypersonic rocket cargo on Pacific atolls on July 4, local time. An Air Force spokesperson revealed that the service is currently seeking alternative locations to implement the project. The objective of this endeavor is to test reusable rocket landing vehicles capable of transporting up to 100 tons of cargo to any global destination within approximately 90 minutes.

However, biologists and environmental experts have expressed concern that the project could adversely affect seabirds in the Johnston Atoll Wildlife Refuge. Despite the US Air Force's initial intention to conduct an environmental assessment for the project, this plan faced opposition from environmental organizations, leading to a delay in the release of the draft assessment.
