The NAS manufacturer Synology has recently made a pronouncement that newly introduced NAS products must exclusively utilize official or certified HDD and SSD hard drives to uphold compatibility and reliability standards. This stipulation, however, has raised alarms about potential monopolistic practices, given that only Synology's proprietary hard drive brand has thus far secured certification. In response, Synology has launched its own line of SNV5400 series enterprise-grade SSDs, which are priced significantly higher than those of competitors, yet deliver merely average performance.
