Microsoft has reportedly postponed the launch of its next-generation Maia self-developed AI chip from 2025 to 2026. During the Microsoft Ignite conference in November 2023, the company unveiled its inaugural AI chip, the Azure Maia 100, alongside the Cobalt 100 CPU. Both innovations are designed to streamline cloud infrastructure and facilitate the training of large language models. Fabricated using TSMC's advanced 5-nanometer process, the Maia 100 boasts an impressive integration of 105 billion transistors and supports data types smaller than 8 bits, thereby enhancing the efficiency of model training and inference.
