On June 15, Germany's Handelsblatt reported that Mark Papermaster, the Chief Technology Officer of Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), expressed criticism towards the US government's semiconductor sanctions against China. Papermaster noted that history has demonstrated that such export controls merely incentivize the targeted party to seek alternatives. He emphasized that Chinese startups and major corporations, including Huawei, have made remarkable strides in the semiconductor industry and are compelled to grow due to surging demand. AMD's CEO, Lisa Su, also addressed the issue of export restrictions on June 12, stating her aspiration to serve the Chinese market. She revealed that she is engaged in discussions with the US government to ensure that restrictions are imposed within a reasonable framework. Su believes this is a complex matter that will require time to resolve and advocates for the global promotion of US artificial intelligence technology.
