PCI-SIG has officially unveiled the PCIe 7.0 specification, now accessible to its member organizations. Leveraging an x16 connection, PCIe 7.0 theoretically reaches a peak bandwidth speed of 512GB/s (bidirectional). As a significant advancement over PCIe 6.0, PCIe 7.0 doubles the data transfer rate to 128 GT/s, enabling a maximum bidirectional bandwidth of up to 512 GB/s in a 16-lane configuration. This specification is tailored for data-intensive applications, including AI, 800G Ethernet, cloud computing, and quantum computing, while maintaining backward compatibility with previous PCIe generations.
