AMD and OpenAI Unveil Ultra-Powerful AI Chips with 35x Boost in Inference Performance

On the morning of June 13, AMD successfully hosted the 2025 Global AI Development Conference, where they showcased their latest AI chips and cloud infrastructure hardware. Co-founder and CEO of OpenAI, Sam Altman, was invited to participate and jointly unveiled the Instinct MI400 and MI350 series of high-performance AI chips alongside AMD. Throughout the development process, OpenAI continuously provided AMD with technical insights to enhance GPU optimization. At the event, Sam Altman expressed awe at the MI400's 432GB HBM4 memory, describing it as astonishing. Compared to its predecessor, the MI350 features 288GB of HBM3E memory, boasts a memory bandwidth of up to 8TB/s, a 4x increase in AI computing power, and a remarkable 35x improvement in inference performance. AMD highlighted that the MI355X chip consumes less power than its competitors and offers 40% more tokens per dollar compared to NVIDIA chips.
