Suzuki Motor Corporation has temporarily halted the production of its Swift model in Japan, commencing on May 26, due to a critical shortage of essential components stemming from China's rare earth export restrictions. This marks the first instance where China's export control measures have directly impacted a Japanese automotive manufacturer. As the world's leading producer, accounting for nearly 70% of global rare earth output, China imposed export controls on seven rare earth metals in April of this year, a move that has already reverberated across multiple industries, affecting companies such as Ford in the United States and European automotive suppliers.
