Google has unveiled plans to revoke the root certificates of Chunghwa Telecom from Taiwan and Netlock from Hungary from its Chrome root certificate store, effective August 1, 2025. Consequently, any certificates issued by these two certificate authorities after this date will no longer be recognized by Chrome browsers. Given Chrome's dominant market position, this shift will practically invalidate these certificates. In response, Chunghwa Telecom has declared that it will cease issuing new TLS certificates from August onwards and intends to support its customers in transitioning to other reputable certificate authorities.
