During an investor conference, Seagate Technology revealed that it has successfully delivered engineering samples of 40TB HAMR hard drives to customers. These drives, which utilize ten platters, each storing 4TB, mark a significant step forward in storage capacity. The company plans to commence full-scale mass production of these drives in the first half of 2026.
Furthermore, Seagate outlined its ambitious roadmap, which includes the launch of 44TB hard drives by 2027 and 50TB hard drives by 2028. While these plans have been subject to delays compared to the original schedule, Seagate remains committed to achieving mass production of 100TB mechanical hard drives by 2030. These initiatives underscore Seagate's ongoing investment in the large-capacity mechanical hard drive sector, aimed at meeting the growing market demand for high storage density solutions.
