On May 28, at its annual shareholders' meeting, United Microelectronics Corporation (UMC), a leading semiconductor foundry, disclosed that the 12nm process jointly engineered with Intel represents its current focal development initiative, with full-scale production anticipated in 2027. This partnership, announced in early 2024, aims to address the surging demand in the mobile communication and network infrastructure sectors. Under this collaborative framework, Intel is tasked with local manufacturing, while UMC handles process development, sales, and service process technology.
