The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) of the United States has given the green light to Verizon's acquisition of Frontier Communications, a fiber internet provider, for a whopping $20 billion. As a precondition, Verizon agreed to discontinue its Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) program. The FCC highlighted that this deal will inject billions of dollars into new infrastructure development across the United States, thereby expediting network enhancements. Upon the closure of the transaction, Verizon anticipates rolling out fiber to at least 1 million American households annually, further upgrading and extending Frontier's existing networks across 25 states. This strategic acquisition is poised to significantly bolster Verizon's fiber customer base and elevate its competitive standing in the U.S. fiber network market.
