On May 13, the Trump administration was reportedly contemplating an arrangement that would permit the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to import over 1 million advanced NVIDIA chips, significantly surpassing the artificial intelligence chip regulatory caps imposed during the Biden administration. It is important to note that this agreement is still in its preliminary stages and may undergo changes. According to reports, by 2027, the UAE will be allowed to import 500,000 of NVIDIA's most cutting-edge chips annually. Of these, one-fifth will be supplied to Abu Dhabi-based artificial intelligence company G42, while the remaining chips will be allocated to American firms constructing data centers in Gulf nations. Among these firms is OpenAI, which might announce the establishment of a new data center in the UAE this week. Throughout the course of this transaction, G42 may acquire computing power equivalent to 1 to 1.5 million H100 chips, roughly four times the scale permitted under the Biden administration.
