A research team led by Professors Wang Xiaomu and Wang Junzhuan from Nanjing University, in collaboration with scientists from the Beijing Institute of Technology, has achieved a remarkable advancement in the realm of infrared weak light detection. The team designed a tunneling junction photoelectric field effect transistor and innovatively introduced steep-slope phototransistors. This groundbreaking approach dramatically enhances the detection sensitivity for infrared ultra-weak light by minimizing the subthreshold swing, surpassing the conventional limitation of relying solely on specific detectivity to define detection limits. Experimental findings reveal that this novel technology boosts the performance of weak light detection by over 30 times compared to traditional devices, thereby paving a new avenue for the evolution of infrared detection technology.
